Getting ready for carnival.

CHILEAN

MINERS TRAPPED

UNDERGROUND

Welcome to Class 7

In October last year the world joined together in thanksgiving for the safe rescue of the miners who had been trapped under the ground. In Class 7 we thought about how it may have felt for the miners to be underground for such a long time. We thought about the things they must have seen, heard, tasted, smelt etc. We imagined how it would have felt to have to see the world afresh after such a long time. We went on to write poems on the wonderful world around us. Our teacher sent them to the President of Chile. Imagine our surprise when four months later a letter arrived from the Presidential Office in Chile thanking us for our gifts and our kind thoughts. James said that he felt proud. Proud! We could hardly get our heads through the door. Our thanks to a Spanish mum from our class who translated the letter for us.

We have been doing some exciting learning in class 7 this year. At the end of February we had a carnival! We had been learning about different celebrations that take place all over the world. Our best memories are making shakers and costumes and dancing and singing along to the steel drums.

It’s a carnival,

It’s a carnival day…

Daniel G said he liked making up music on the computer for the Chinese New Year dragon to dance to.

Another area on which we have been working is our handwriting.

Daniel B said “When we were in Reception we were little but now we are big we do cursive writing”.

“It is cursive. It has flicks and kicks and we are much more confident about it” said Chloe E.

Talking of mums, have we told you about our super helpers who come in and help us with reading, cooking and the dreaded pencil sharpening?

The children in Class 7 enjoy their learning and are able to tell each other their strengths. For example

Daniel B says “I’m the sounds person”.

Lexi is “the organiser” Chloe is the “words person”. What are your strengths???

Funniest moment:

Writing spells which turned the teacher into a pig.
